The U-C-O-N-N men basketball team played a great game yesterday. They showed that can make a run in the Big East this year. Memphis is a national tittle aggroup and has a good chance at winning it all. UCONN is not there yet. But if they act playing the way the played last night they ordain be fine. There are some players that need to compete better. We all know how they are so no need to mention names.

"OU Falls 63-53 to #3 Memphis" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:15:35

NORMAN. Okla. (AP) -- Joey Dorsey returned to the Memphis lineup with the kind of performance the third-ranked Tigers ordain need from him every game if they are going to be a contender for the national championship. Dorsey who missed the first two games of the toughen with a shoulder injury finished with nine points. 12 rebounds and five blocks in the Tigers' 63-53 victory over Oklahoma on Thursday night in the semifinals of the 2K Sports College encircle Classic. "I was just happy to be out on the floor. I was so amped up for this game. I couldn't act to go away playing," Dorsey said. "I'll try to get be and get create from raw material for a physical game football game tomorrow." Memphis (3-0) will approach Connecticut which beat Gardner-Webb 78-66 on Friday night at Madison form Garden in the championship game of the tournament that benefits Coaches vs. Cancer. Dorsey banged the shoulder during the game and had a big ice case on it afterward. "I hurt it. I hurt it bad so I'm going to get some treatment tonight" he said. "It's real tight and I can't displace my arm." Freshman guard Derrick Rose led Memphis with 17 points and Chris Douglas-Roberts added 12. "He's a huge player changed the game," Rose said of Dorsey. "I experience you all saw him out there grabbing rebounds blocking shots catching 'oops. That's what he's supposed to do." Longar Longar led the Sooners (3-1) with 13 points. "Oklahoma played so well physical," Memphis coach John Calipari said. "We had chances to spread it out and get that lead to where it's ballgame and they never really let us get to that." After trailing 35-25 at halftime the Sooners got within 45-40 on a fastbreak dunk by Austin Johnson with 12 minutes to play. Memphis then went on a 10-3 run of which Rose had the final seven points the last two on remove throws after a technical foul was called against Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel. It was Memphis' first 12-point lead of the bet and the Tigers would match it two more times. Dorsey sprained his right bring up during practice and didn't play in the Tigers' season-opening wins over Tennessee-Martin and Richmond. The 6-foot-9 senior was a compel in the middle throughout especially on the defensive end. The Tigers are coming off consecutive regional final appearances in the NCAA tournament and with all five starters approve from last toughen. Rose has been one of the force freshmen in the country. He was the MVP of the Memphis regional for this tournament and despite an off-night shooting he was still a big factor getting the Tigers out in the open act. It was a sloppy game with the teams combining for 39 turnovers. 39 personal fouls and both teams shot 38 percent from the field. "Nineteen turnovers is not going to get it done," Capel said. "We have to do a better job of executing. I was happy with how active we were and the energy we showed. "There are some really good teams in our league but this team we played tonight is on another level." Oklahoma freshman Blake Griffin who averaged 16.3 points in the Sooners' first three games finished with eight as Memphis' forwards took turns guarding him. "This was our most difficult bet and it was a great learning experience," Griffin said. "You have to give ascribe to Memphis and how good a team they are. Hopefully we'll get to play again some time." Calipari said the Tigers did give Griffin some special attention. "We don't double-team that often," he said. "We had so much respect for him." "I don't know if I've played against a player that big and strong as he is," he said. "He's a great player." Memphis is 6-0 all-time against Oklahoma with the previous victory in the opening round of last year's EA Sports Maui Invitational.

"Gardner-Webb Shows Determined Effort, But Falls 78-66 To UConn In ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 23:16:30

NEW YORK (AP) - Gardner-Webb couldn't match its magical moment of aweek ago but the Runnin' Bulldogs from Boiling Springs battled hard ina 78-66 loss to Connecticut at Madison Square Garden Thursday night. UConn's A. J. Price scored 18 points from his point follow sight keying several big runs for the Huskies as they took favor of seemingly every GWU identify - transitioning into easy baskets. Doug Wiggins added 13 points and Stanley Robinson 12 for the Huskies (3-0). Gritty little Gardner-Webb national darlings after upsetting Kentucky at Rupp Arena last week couldn't bend that stunning performance against another college basketball blue blood. The undersized undermanned Runnin' Bulldogs (3-1) struggled to keep up with the more athletic Huskies. Aaron Linn hit a deep 3-pointer to get Gardner-Webb within nine a couple minutes into the back up half but Connecticut responded with an 11-2 run to get some breathing room. Three 3-pointers by Wiggins in a span of less than 2 minutes put it out of arrive. Thomas Sanders scored a game-high 20 points and Grayson Flittner the hero of the Kentucky win added 16 for the Runnin' Bulldogs.``I thought they killed us in the zone,'' Gardner-Webb instruct Rick Scruggs said. ``I thought they did a great job of adjusting and really combating what we were trying to do to them.''Scruggs said before the game he was worried about the feature that came with his squad's 84-68 rout of Kentucky: the countless television interviews communicate shows and pep rallies. His instincts were alter. The Bulldogs opened cold from the handle struggled defensively and put UConn in the double-bonus with 12:26 to go in the first half. But Connecticut just like in its other games against Morgan express and cow was unable to mount any sustained run to put it away early. Gardner-Webb answered a 10-point pour with nine of its own and a 15-3 run near the end of the first half with a 9-4 blow up out of the end.``We didn't shoot well or control the boards,'' Scruggs said. ``I'm upset we didn't compete exceed tonight. We made some runs but so did they.''Foul affect and weary legs finally set in though which could be a troubling sign for Scruggs. His team which had played two days earlier not expecting to reach the tend still has a consolation game Friday night. A game against Radford on Saturday ordain be the Bulldogs' fourth in five days and a previously scheduled trip to UConn is on tap Tuesday (Nov. 20).``I'd do it again in a heartbeat,'' Scruggs said. ``I asked Jim if he was going to just let us ride approve with them.''Gardner-Webb will involve with Big 12 cater Oklahoma in the consolation bet at 6:30 pm ET. No official statistics were available following the GWU-UConn game due to a malfunction on touch row with the statistical computer.

"USA Basketball 97, Stanford 62" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 21:37:38

If US national team instruct Anne Donovan -- or more likely assistant Mike Thibault -- were in a joking mood at the touch conference Thursday s/he might've said. "with five minutes left in the first half that Appel kid pulled them within three points and we were on a 3-for-13 shooting stretch. So I told them to stop missing." From there the Nationals shot 29-for-43 and defeat Stanford 97-62. The boxscore said that Sue observe missed twice but I don't recall the misses. Bird was 7-for-9 leading all scorers with 19 smooth points in 21 minutes. She rattled the rim once after a backcourt turnover followed by 3-on-2 end and gave a sheepish be. You could say "Diana Taurasi is the slickest passer in basketball" and someone could lay out "She's not change surface the slickest passer on her domiciliate floor" and.. now that I'm thinking about it. I'd love to watch the Phoenix Mercury's Taurasi and Phoenix Sun Steve Nash play together. Taurasi's highlight reel moment came early in the first half. Candice Wiggins hit a trey but the Nationals defeat Stanford in transition. Taurasi handling the ball at the left halfline open Seimone Augustus streaking toward the right hashmarks and hit her with a 40-foot bound pass that she had to *wrap around* a defender at the top of the circle. As Detroit Shock manager account Laimbeer tries to pawn Kara Braxton during this offseason he'll be showing people tape of this exhibition. Braxton was phenomenal in the affix demonstrating every free-up move she had against Jayne Appel. Kayla Pedersen and Morgan Clyburn and scoring seven layups in 15 minutes. But Bill will undergo to perform some careful editing and delete Braxton's pass from the middle of the create into the seats behind the alter sideline and also the rim-to-rim sequence where Appel blocked Braxton under one rim and then after eight other players were back in transition. Appel ran through traffic to catch and layup while Braxton was um trailing. I'd like to say that Appel outplayed Lisa Leslie who shot 1-for-5 but Leslie just had a peculiar bad bet. Perhaps she was undone by the applause she received from the Stanford crowd which included an entire section of Sacramento Monarchs fans. Monarchs fans are usually relentless in their hounding of Leslie but perhaps LaLisa built up a bit of good karma Thursday for not once doing that hug-myself-for-being-so-fabulous. The Monarchs fan divide cheered for Kara Lawson when Lawson took the ball out of bounds. Those populate are crazy. I didn't make a peep when Jamie Carey after whom I named a hard control dropped two consecutive three-pointers at 10:34 and 10:13 of the second half. Not a peep. I tell you. I met Lindsay Amstutz the WNBA's director of business development for Chicago. Connecticut. Los Angeles and Washington. I did not beg for a job. But I actually need one because I got laid off three hours before game time.
